Republic of Letters @ the Casbah

by Antonio Maristela

In a crowd of what literally appeared to be 20:1 of females to dudes, at The Casbah, on Kettner, Downtown, Republic of Letters rocked the famous stage, on this very cold and eerie Saturday night.

Curious calls from the crowd asking “Where you guys from?” not knowing their pedigree of genuine, solid, alternative rock is San Diego’s own.

[The four members of the band are made up of brothers Chris (lead vocals/guitar/keyboard) and Nick Venti (drums); Adrian Thorstensen (guitar/vocals); and bass player, Martin Niwinski. Originally formed in 2005 as a brother team writing and creating music in their college years, the band organically evolved into a trio. Martin was their perfect fit, after a long, tedious search for a bass player. Soon after, the band became four with Adrian’s arrival in 2006.]

Still, out of the woodwork and chill, many came to hear Chris, Nick, Adrian and Martin rip their current EP release from their Painted Hour EP, along with a show finisher tribute to INXS’ Don’t Change.
