With the combined soulful elegance of her heroines, Eyka Badu and Mary J Blige, age 23, Kendra-Michele, aka Kenji, could very well be the next best ‘thang’ that happened to San Diego. Her voice is angelic, and her demeanor is star quality spectacular. All tracks and musical scores are her original work, especially when she touches the piano keyboard. But together, she creates a wonderful aura that will take her music to new and promising evolution.

Kenji performed two tracks last night at SPIN CITY LOUNGE of Chula Vista. Her opening cover of LIL’ Wayne’s, How to Love, was a tickling sample of her command of the piano. But it was her second piece, transitioning straight to a standing mic that made you bump your shoulders and clap to a time of Morris Day when love ballads were funky feel good.
